Who We Are

BOPA (Base of Pyramid Asia) is a Singapore-based, holding company that invests equity in smaller and mid-sized Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) in Asia.

Founded in 2013, BOPA has extensive experience in working with small and mid-sized MFIs in emerging and frontier markets.

Currently we have made investments in Myanmar, India, Timor Leste, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Our objective is to shape strong and responsible MFIs in Asia that will grow to reach over 2 million clients by 2025

Our Strategy

  • We invest with a long term holding perspective
  • We typically make initial investments of USD 500,000–2,500,000 and seek to support the growth of the institution with follow-on investments
  • We invest in substantial minority equity positions in smaller and mid-sized Asian MFIs with proven sustainability and on a clear path to capture growth and scale
  • We take board seats in our portfolio MFIs and seek to engage in Risk Management, HR and Audit committees
  • we provide guidance and assistance for MFIs to make well informed decisions on Technology and Digital Financial Services
  • We actively work to balance delivering financial returns and have lasting positive social impact on the clients of the MFIs we have invested in
